My Personal Philosophy

I wrote this for the end of the year Senior exit project, and this paper reflects what I believe in.

Life is something that should never be wasted, or taken for granted. Some think that we have so much time, but in all reality, life is gone with the snap of a finger. People waste their lives by making bad decisions, such as deciding to have sex early in life, or deciding to use drugs to try to deal with their problems. Actions such as these have severe consequences. I believe that good decision making allows us to have the best, most enjoyable life possible. There are always temptations, but when any arise, I give them up to God.

By doing this, I stay responsible for myself. I believe that no one else is responsible for me other than my parents, and that is only by law. Friends, teachers, principals, and not even the authorities are responsible for me. I have to take care of myself, and doing so includes making good decisions. One way to make good decisions is to learn from the mistakes of others. Doing so saves ourselves a lot of grief and agony. This is a very good thing, because life should be enjoyable. It shouldn't be wasted by suffering consequences from bad decision making.

I believe that people should always be themselves. There is no need to change one's personality in order to fit in with other groups. It isn't worth it. It is like leading multiple lives, which can be very confusing. I believe that people, who change their personalities and types of actions around different people, don't really know themselves or what they stand for, and therefore, will fall for anything. I live to be myself. I know who I am, and what I want, and for this reason, I am very lucky.

I am a person who believes in love, acceptance, and forgiveness. Along with this, I also believe that no one has the right to judge anyone else. Only God has the right to do so. When we judge others, we are certainly not showing love or acceptance. Each of us has our own standards, and to judge others by those standards is ridiculous, because our standards are not God's standards. When someone does something wrong, I believe in forgiving that person. By being able to forgive, we are not only showing God's love, but we don't have to carry any grudges. Love, acceptance, and forgiveness are all beautiful things.

Along with loving, accepting, and forgiving others, we also need to be able to do this with ourselves. We all have faults, as we are all human. I believe that we aren't truly happy until we love, accept, and forgive ourselves. We need to accept our faults. After doing so, we have two options. We can either choose to love ourselves more for them, or try to change them. If we complain about our faults, nothing is accomplished, accept for getting ourselves depressed about them. It is better to ask for help then to complain about not knowing how to do something, whether it is to be a better listener, or how to solve certain problems, or many other things. If we don't ask for help when it is needed, nothing is accomplished, and people tend to complain about their incapability of something. Many times, we receive help when we ask for it, and in the end, it makes us happier.

Life is something to enjoy. Making good decisions, loving, accepting, and forgiving others and ourselves, knowing who we are and what we stand for, and asking help when needed, are all ways to make life more enjoyable. And who doesn't want to enjoy life?
